One hundred years prior to the construction of the Erie Steam Bakery, this intersection was occupied by the residence and outbuildings of Judah Colt, an Erie pioneer and resident land agent for the Pennsylvania Population Company. The influx of tradesmen who moved to Erie during construction of the naval fleet in 1812, proved beneficial to Colt whose job was to promote and sell land to new settlers. At this site, Colt entertained Revolutionary War hero the Marquis de Lafayette in 1825 during his American tour.
